Two-Day Training on Scientific Dairy Cattle Rearing Held at Indira Nagar Under Gram Panchayat Humphreygunj

The Department of Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services (AH&VS), in collaboration with the Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA) and ICAR–Central Island Agricultural Research Institute (CIARI), organized a two-day training programme on “Scientific Rearing and Management of Dairy Cattle” at Indira Nagar, Gram Panchayat Humphreygunj, on August 30 and 31.

The programme aimed to enhance milk production, improve cattle health, and promote sustainable livelihoods for dairy farmers. A total of 37 dairy farmers participated and received hands-on training on modern cattle management practices.

Expert sessions were conducted by Dr. Ajay Verma, Joint Director (AH&VS), Dr. Prakash Bala, Principal Scientist (CIARI), Dr. P. Perumal, Senior Scientist (CIARI), Dr. Subhash Palve, Senior Veterinary Officer, Livestock Farm Complex, Dollygunj, Dr. Satish Kumar, Senior Veterinary Officer, Dollygunj, Dr. Lawhale Ninad Sahebrao, Senior Veterinary Officer, Manglutan, Mr. Abdul Majeed, Senior Veterinary Compounder, and Ms. Shabana Kulsoom, Veterinary Compounder. The sessions covered scientific methods of cattle rearing, health management, nutrition, and productivity enhancement.

Indira Nagar, with nearly 236 cattle and 50 dairy farmers, contributes around 800–1000 litres of fresh milk daily to the local economy. The training is expected to further boost efficiency and output in the dairy sector.

Ms. Kavita Devi, Samiti Member of Gram Panchayat Humphreygunj, lauded the efforts of AH&VS for conducting the programme at the village level and ensuring that local farmers benefit from scientific expertise.
