The Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services (AH&VS), A&N Administration, successfully conducted a two-day training program on the scientific rearing and management of goats on July 30 and 31, 2025, at the Veterinary Hospital, Rangat. The initiative aimed to enhance livestock productivity and promote sustainable livelihoods among local farmers through improved goat farming practices.

The program witnessed active participation from farmers across the Rangat region. During the sessions, veterinary experts provided in-depth knowledge on key aspects of goat management, including the care of kids, effective housing systems, and balanced feeding practices to ensure better health and productivity of the animals. Emphasis was also placed on the significance of timely vaccinations for disease prevention and herd management.

Hands-on demonstrations and interactive discussions helped participants gain practical insights into adopting scientific methods for goat rearing. The training aimed to equip farmers with skills to overcome common challenges, boost economic returns, and contribute to food and nutritional security through protein-rich goat products.

The initiative reflects the AH&VS Department’s commitment to strengthening animal husbandry in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The enthusiastic response from the farming community underscores a growing interest in modern livestock practices. The department also plans to extend such training programs to other regions of the islands, aligning with the A&N Administration’s broader vision of sustainable rural development and agricultural growth.
