Two Minors aged 14 & 16 years were recently caught smuggling 5.1 Kg Ganja at Port Blair. Both Minors are siblings and had just landed at Port Blair from Kolkata when a team from PS CCS suspected something fishy and nabbed them near the Registrar of Cooperative Societies building on VIP Road.
The minors are residents of Rangat in North and Middle Andaman District and had recently travelled to Kolkata on 15th February 2023, with their parents.
The parents of the Minors reportedly gave them a lot of luggage and Air Tickets for their travel from Kolkata to Port Blair. According to the FIR, the minors informed the Police that their parents had instructed them to proceed to Rangat soon after landing at Port Blair, and if no bus was available, they were asked to stay at a local hotel.
The 5.1 Kg Ganja recovered from the possession of the Minors was found in five packets, wrapped with Carbon Paper and black and brown coloured tape.
PS CCS has also booked the parents of the Minors.
Ganja smuggling seems to be on the rise in the Islands. Two minors being caught smuggling ganja testify to the fact that the smugglers are now trying to find new ways to safely import their contraband.
Theoretically, Andaman and Nicobar Islands should be the easiest place for the authorities to stop the contraband flow because of restricted entry methods. Smuggling of Ganja by passengers in their luggage is quite concerning, and immediate steps should be taken to stop all contraband smuggling at the origin Airports.
