Union Minister of State for Youth Affairs & Sports, Mrs. Raksha Nikhil Khadse, visited the Andaman and Nicobar Islands on January 22 and 23. During her visit, she met Admiral DK Joshi, PVSM, AVSM, YSM, NM, VSM (Retd.), the Hon’ble Lt. Governor of A&N Islands and Vice Chairman of the Islands Development Agency, at Raj Niwas on January 23.
In their meeting, the Lt. Governor highlighted the immense potential for sports projects in the Islands. He emphasized the need for world-class facilities to nurture athletic talent and promote sports infrastructure development, positioning the region as a hub for sporting excellence. He particularly highlighted the remarkable achievements of Island athletes, who have brought international acclaim to India, especially in the field of cycling.
The discussion also focused on talent identification and the grooming of youth, particularly from the tribal population, in traditional sports like archery and swimming.
The visit marks a significant step towards strengthening sports initiatives in the region and advancing the vision of making the Islands a center for athletic achievement.
