Union Minister to Launch Sixth Phase of ‘Sagar Parikrama’ in Andaman and Nicobar Islands

The Department of Fisheries, Andaman and Nicobar Administration, in collaboration with the Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, and the National Fisheries Development Board, Hyderabad, will be organizing an event to launch the Sixth Phase of ‘Sagar Parikrama.’ The launch will be officiated by Mr. Parshottam Rupala, Hon’ble Union Minister for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry, and Dairying, in Andaman and Nicobar Islands at Fish Landing Centre, Panighat on May 29, 2023.

The primary objective of the Sagar Parikrama initiative is to engage with key stakeholders in the fisheries sector, understand their concerns and experiences at the grassroots level, and disseminate information about various ongoing government schemes and programs for their benefit.

The Hon’ble Union Minister for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry, and Dairying will commence and inaugurate the Sixth Phase of the Sagar Parikrama Yatra, starting from Phoenix Bay Jetty and concluding at Fish Landing Centre, Panighat. During the journey, the minister will interact with fishermen, fish sellers, fish farmers, entrepreneurs, and other stakeholders.

At the Fish Landing Centre in Panighat, the Hon’ble Union Minister will engage with progressive fishermen and entrepreneurs who have received subsidies under the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY). The minister will also distribute Kisan Credit Cards (KCC) to fishers and provide selection orders to newly selected PMMSY beneficiaries.

Furthermore, the Hon’ble Union Minister will virtually lay the foundation stone for the Fish Landing Centre at V.K.Pur, Little Andaman, during the program.
