In a significant stride toward inclusivity and empowerment, the Unique ID for Persons with Disabilities (PwDs) project has commenced the issuance of Unique Disability Identity (UDID) Cards to individuals with disabilities across the nation. This transformative initiative aims to create a comprehensive National Database for Persons with Disabilities while facilitating an array of essential benefits for those living with disabilities.
The UDID project, now in full swing, not only champions transparency and efficiency but also streamlines government benefit delivery to Persons with Disabilities, ensuring uniformity in accessibility and services.
Among the key advantages that the UDID Card brings to Persons with Disabilities are:
1. Free Travel Facilities: Individuals with disabilities can now enjoy free travel facilities in both public and private buses, promoting greater mobility and independence.
2. Free Ferry and Ship Services: Accessible ferry and ship services are extended to enable easy inter-island and mainland travel, further enhancing connectivity for disabled citizens.
3. Disability Allowance: A monthly disability allowance of Rs. 2,500 per beneficiary has been introduced to alleviate financial burdens that often accompany disabilities.
4. Assistive Devices: Customised assistive devices are provided based on individual needs and income criteria, ensuring that Divyangjan individuals receive the necessary support to enhance their daily lives.
5. Niramaya Health Insurance: Enrolment in the Niramaya Health Insurance scheme offers comprehensive healthcare coverage, prioritising the well-being of Persons with Disabilities.
6. Disability Scholarships: Opportunities for disability scholarships are now available, empowering individuals to pursue education and skill development, fostering a more inclusive and equitable society.
7. Streamlined Documentation: The UDID Card eliminates the need for multiple copies of documents, as it comprehensively captures all essential details, simplifying access to benefits and services.
8. Single Document for Identification: Serving as the sole document for the identification and verification of disabled individuals, the UDID Card offers unparalleled convenience in accessing various benefits and services.
9. Progress Tracking: The UDID Card plays a pivotal role in tracking the physical and financial progress of beneficiaries, ensuring the effectiveness of government programs.
