Port Blair Municipal Council has issued a directive urging the general public and all street vendors/hawkers to refrain from occupying roadside/pathway spaces, particularly in areas adjacent to key locations such as Veer Savarkar Airport, Flag Point, Gandhi Park to DBRAIT at Dollygunj, and Raj Niwas to Phoenix Bay Jetty. This directive will be effective from February 15, 2024, to February 23, 2024, in anticipation of an upcoming VVIP visit to the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

The directive includes instructions for shopkeepers and street vendors to refrain from selling goods or placing carts and kiosks on footpaths and roadsides within the specified areas. In response to this directive, the Port Blair Municipal Council has initiated a concerted effort to clear the mentioned areas of street vendors and hawkers.

This move comes as part of preparations for the forthcoming VVIP visit, aiming to ensure smooth passage and security arrangements during the visit. The directive underscores the importance of maintaining clear pathways and roadsides.
