Urgent Appeal to Reinstate Meal Service at Kamorta Community Health Center

In a heartfelt plea, Mr. Rayhaan Pasha, President of the Nicobar Youth Association, has urgently requested the Commissioner-cum-Secretary (Health) of the Andaman and Nicobar Administration to reinstate the meal service at the Community Health Center (CHC) in Kamorta. This vital service, which has been discontinued for over a year, plays a crucial role in supporting patients from the remote and underserved tribal communities of the Nancowrie group of islands.

The CHC in Kamorta is the sole community health centre serving a large population spread across various remote villages. For many impoverished tribal patients, reaching the CHC is already a significant challenge due to limited transportation options. The removal of the meal service has intensified their struggles, forcing patients to depend on external sources for food—resources many cannot afford. Compounding the issue, the vast distances between the villages and the CHC prevent patients from traveling home for meals during their treatment, further aggravating their difficulties.

Access to proper nutrition during hospital stays is critical, especially for the tribal population facing unique challenges in these remote areas. The reinstatement of the meal service would provide essential relief to patients already grappling with limited access to healthcare facilities and adequate nutrition.

Mr. Pasha, along with the tribal council of the Nancowrie group of islands, is urging the government to take immediate action to address this pressing issue, reaffirming its commitment to the welfare of the tribal communities. He emphasized the need for authorities to prioritize the reinstatement of the meal service, calling it a basic necessity that can significantly enhance the health and well-being of the tribal population.

The community remains hopeful for a swift response from the authorities, recognizing that the revival of the meal service would greatly benefit the health and recovery of tribal patients in the Nancowrie group of islands.
