The UT Administration is actively working towards empowering households across the Islands with solar energy under the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana by conducting awareness camps and disseminating information through electronic and print media. With the growing response from consumers, many islanders are now coming forward to enroll in the scheme and avail its benefits.

Adding to this momentum, Mr. Bhagyadhar Mazumder, a resident of Govind Nagar, Swaraj Dweep, has become the first individual in the region to commission a 6 KW rooftop solar plant at his residence under the scheme. His initiative sets a precedent for others and is expected to inspire more residents to adopt solar power.

During his recent visit to Swaraj Dweep, Dr. Sachin Shinde, IAS, Commissioner-cum-Secretary (Power), interacted with PRI members and local residents on power-related matters and the promotion of the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana. On the occasion, he felicitated Mr. Mazumder for taking a pioneering step towards renewable energy adoption.

Dr. Shinde also highlighted the key benefits of the scheme, including the subsidy component, easy loan facilities, and the long-term energy security that solar adoption ensures. He urged islanders to actively participate in the initiative for a sustainable future.

Addressing the gathering, the Commissioner-cum-Secretary further informed that measures are underway to augment additional generation capacity of 1.5 MW by October 10, 2025, ensuring uninterrupted power supply during the upcoming tourist season.
