The Union Territory Agriculture Technology Management Agency (UTATMA), in collaboration with the Department of Agriculture, Diglipur, organised a two-day training program on ‘Preparation and Uses of Various Organic Inputs, Including Compost, Bio-fertilizers, and Bio-pesticides’ at Nischintapur village under Gram Panchayat Kalighat on February 21 and 22, 2025.
Nischintapur, one of the remotest villages under Gram Panchayat Kalighat, was originally settled by 16 farmers in 1955-56, each receiving 2.02 hectares of land. Over the years, this land has been divided among approximately 42 families. The training program aimed to promote organic farming techniques among local farmers, equipping them with knowledge on sustainable agricultural practices.
Addressing the participants, Ms. Arti Singh, Assistant Director (Agriculture), Diglipur, emphasized the significance of using organic inputs such as vermicompost, farmyard manure, bio-fertilizers, and bio-pesticides to enhance crop cultivation naturally. She highlighted the long-term benefits of organic farming for soil health and productivity.
Ms. Seena Pillai, Agriculture Officer (In-Charge), provided insights into the vermicomposting process, demonstrating the use of vermibeds supplied by the department at a 20% subsidy. She also discussed key precautions to be taken while preparing vermicompost. Meanwhile, Ms. Kamrun Nisa, Agriculture Assistant, elaborated on the importance and application of bio-fertilizers and bio-pesticides made available through the department.
Participants also received hands-on training from Mr. Riktik Baroi, Junior Agriculture Assistant, and Mr. Satinder Prasad, Agriculture Field Assistant, who demonstrated the preparation of organic inputs such as Neemashtra, Jeevamrit, and vermicompost.
Farmers were further encouraged to register with the departmental market outlet, VATIKA, at Sri Vijaya Puram, to market and sell their value-added organic products. The training program was well received, with participants expressing keen interest in adopting organic farming practices for a more sustainable agricultural future.
