VD Leju, an LG Commendation Awardee for Social Work, has requested the Deputy Commissioner of South Andaman to expedite the development of the Light and Sound Show at Balidan Vedi, Humfreygunj. In a letter addressed to the Deputy Commissioner, Leju urged for early implementation of the project, highlighting its potential to bring significant value to the area.

In addition to the Light and Sound Show, Leju proposed several other initiatives aimed at enhancing the region’s infrastructure, including the construction of an indoor stadium, a health and fitness centre, and a park with a walkway similar to Sri Vijaya Puram’s Jogger’s Park. These additional projects she proposed are seen as a means to provide youth with healthy outlets, promoting well-being and reducing social issues such as substance abuse.

The request comes after a visit by the Deputy Commissioner and other officials to the area in August 2024, following a request from the Pradhan of Humfreygunj Gram Panchayat. The Pradhan had sought development of Light & Sound Show to showcase historical events and honour the sacrifices made by the people of Andamans during the Japanese regime. The Pradhan had also sought approval for set apart of land for the proposed Light and Sound Show.

The news of the project proposed by the Pradhan has sparked excitement among local residents, who are eager to see these developments come to fruition. Many have expressed their hope that the initiative will not only provide much-needed recreational facilities but also attract tourists to the area.

Leju emphasised that the Light and Sound Show proposed by Pradhan, along with the additional facilities that she proposed, would greatly benefit the local community by providing recreational and cultural opportunities that are currently lacking in the rural area. Moreover, it is expected to boost tourism and contribute to the local economy, bringing in visitors interested in exploring the historical significance of the area.
