The Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services, in collaboration with ICAR–CIARI, Sri Vijaya Puram, organised a Veterinary Health Camp at Pahalgaon Panchayat with the objective of improving reproductive health and productivity among livestock in the region.

During the camp, cattle from Tugapur No. 8, Tugapur No. 6 and Pahalgaon village underwent reproductive health examination by Dr. P. Perumal, Senior Scientist and expert in Veterinary Gynaecology, along with Dr. Sujata Hegde, SVO and Zonal Officer, Mayabunder. A total of 14 cattle were assessed for pregnancy and infertility-related concerns.

As part of the intervention, one cow and one buffalo that were found in heat were artificially inseminated using improved semen straws of Sahiwal and Murrah breeds to boost genetic potential and local dairy productivity.

In addition to reproductive care, all animals attending the camp were dewormed and provided mineral mixtures to support nutritional health and prevent deficiencies.

The initiative received encouraging participation from livestock owners and helped raise awareness about scientific animal husbandry practices. Officials said that such infertility-focused veterinary camps are expected to help revive non-productive cattle and buffaloes, thereby enhancing milk production in rural areas.
