In a focused effort to support livestock farmers and address reproductive issues in cattle, the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services (AH&VS), A&N Administration, in collaboration with the ICAR-Central Island Agricultural Research Institute (CIARI), Sri Vijaya Puram, conducted a Veterinary Health-cum-Infertility Camp on July 30, 2025, in villages under Wandoor and Humphreygunj Panchayats.

The camp was organized to tackle infertility—a key factor causing economic setbacks for dairy farmers—by offering expert veterinary care and guidance on improving animal reproductive health.

A total of 165 cattle were examined during the camp, with 28 animals screened specifically for infertility. Of these, 10 were treated for reproductive disorders. Veterinary teams provided diagnostic services, treatments, and expert advice, emphasizing the importance of balanced nutrition and proper reproductive management practices to boost fertility and milk production.

Farmers were sensitized on modern animal husbandry techniques, including feeding practices and breeding management, aimed at enhancing reproductive efficiency and ensuring sustainable livestock production.

The camp witnessed the participation of Dr. Perumal P, Senior Scientist, ICAR-CIARI; Dr. Lawhale Ninad Sahebrao, Senior Veterinary Officer; Dr. Zachariah George, Subject Matter Specialist, Krishi Vigyan Kendra; along with staff from the Veterinary Dispensary, Manglutan.

The initiative received an enthusiastic response from local farmers, reflecting the community’s commitment to improving livestock health and productivity. The Department of AH&VS has expressed its intent to continue organizing such camps across the islands, in alignment with the A&N Administration’s broader vision for sustainable agriculture and food security.
