The Veterinary Hospital, Diglipur, under the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services (AH&VS), in collaboration with the Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA), organised a field-level demonstration on value addition of cow and goat milk on February 18 at the farm of Mr. Anil Day of RK Gram, Diglipur.

The programme was aimed at creating awareness among dairy and goat farmers about enhancing their income through processing and value addition of milk. During the session, farmers were informed about the high nutritional value of goat milk products and their increasing demand, particularly among children and the elderly.

Officials highlighted how value addition can help reduce post-harvest losses, generate rural employment, and encourage greater participation of women through Self-Help Groups (SHGs). The initiative also focused on promoting entrepreneurship in the rural dairy sector.

A large number of farmers, including several women, actively participated in the demonstration and expressed keen interest in adopting value-added practices.

The Department stated that similar field-level demonstrations will continue to be conducted to strengthen the rural dairy sector, promote entrepreneurship, and support sustainable livelihoods across the Andaman & Nicobar Islands.
