On November 30, 2024, the Vidya Yuvakendra Foundation (VYK), a decade-old voluntary organisation dedicated to skill and rural development, held a heartfelt Humanity Outreach Program at the Abhyuday Complex in Ferrargunj, South Andaman. This initiative aimed to bring joy and solidarity to senior citizens, children, and individuals with physical challenges residing in the home.
The program, conducted with the support of the Directorate of Social Welfare, featured a vibrant array of cultural performances. Highlights included a Bharatanatyam dance and a melodious song by Ms. Dhaniya, a computer course student, followed by group dances performed by beautician students Ms. Catherine, Ms. Bhavatharani, and Ms. Priyanka. Mrs. Nisha, a beautician faculty member, also performed a captivating song.
Adding a poetic touch, Mrs. Shama recited heartfelt Hindi shayari, resonating deeply with the audience. The event reached its peak with veteran island singer Mr. JN Raj, whose renditions of Kishore Kumar and Mohammed Rafi classics brought immense cheer to the senior citizens.
A special moment was the honouring of 101-year-old Mr. Damo Mondal, a super senior resident of the home, by VYK’s Director-cum-CEO, Mr. J Mohanraam Kumar, and Co-Director, Ms. Meena Mohan. As a gesture of goodwill, VYK donated 10 new cotton pillows and covers to the home, handed over to Shri Tapas, the Office Superintendent.
The day concluded with a delightful lunch arranged by the foundation, including sweets and ice cream for all the residents. The event was orchestrated by Mr. Siva Prasad, Resource Officer, and Mrs. Anita Ravi, Admin Coordinator, and ended with a vote of thanks delivered by Ms. Meena Mohan.
Through this program, Vidya Yuvakendra Foundation reaffirmed its commitment to fostering community welfare and bringing smiles to those in need.
