The Deputy Commissioner of Nicobars, Mr. Amit Kale, IAS, inaugurated the Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan 2025 at a function held at the Community Hall in Perka and Big Lapathy village, Car Nicobar. The campaign, a nationwide initiative aimed at improving agricultural practices and empowering farmers, will run from May 29 to June 12, 2025.

Speaking as the chief guest, Mr. Kale emphasized the transformative potential of the campaign. “The Rath Yatra under Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan is not merely a campaign—it’s a commitment to our farmers. By bringing information, inputs, and innovation to the grassroots, we are bridging the gap between policy and practice. I urge every farmer to actively engage in this journey towards self-reliance and prosperity,” he said.

Mr. Lionald Nicomede, Chairman of the Tribal Council, Car Nicobar, attended as the guest of honour. He urged local farmers to adopt scientific, Government-supported agricultural practices and commended the role of KVK and allied departments in delivering essential services to the community.

Dr. Santosh Kumar, Senior Scientist and Head of ICAR-KVK Nicobar, welcomed the gathering and outlined the campaign’s core objectives—spreading awareness about modern agricultural technologies, promoting Government schemes, and encouraging effective use of Soil Health Cards to ensure balanced fertilizer use and appropriate crop selection.

The 15-day campaign will cover nearly all villages in Car Nicobar, Nancowry, and Campbell Bay. Activities will include awareness programmes, door-to-door outreach, and interactive sessions between farmers, scientists, and officials from various line departments. These efforts aim to bring practical knowledge and direct Government support to the farming community.

Simultaneous launch events were held at Campbell Bay and Nancowry, organized by Team Campbell Bay and Team Nancowry. As part of the campaign, several agricultural and allied inputs were distributed, including Soil Health Cards, Fishing Licenses, ID Cards, National Fisheries Digital Platform Certificates, chicks, animal feed, mineral supplements, and high-quality seeds.

Mr. C. Vinod Kumar, Assistant Director of the Agriculture Department, delivered the vote of thanks.

The event concluded with the ceremonial flag-off of the Rath Yatra by Mr. Amit Kale and Mr. Lionald Nicomede, marking the official launch of the district-wide campaign. This was followed by technical presentations by ICAR-KVK Nicobar and various departments on Government schemes and innovative technologies tailored for farmers.
