As part of the nationwide Pre-Kharif campaign ‘Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan’ launched on 29th May 2025, the initiative is making strong progress across all zones of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The campaign aims to empower farmers by spreading awareness about various Government of India agricultural schemes and introducing modern farming technologies to boost productivity and sustainability.

In the Union Territory, the campaign is being jointly implemented by departmental officials, Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs), and other stakeholders. It has seen enthusiastic participation from farmers across the Islands, including those in rural and remote areas.

A notable effort under the campaign is its outreach to the Nancowrie group of Islands, where officials travel by boat to ensure farmers in these isolated locations are included. Farmers there have actively engaged in awareness programs, reflecting growing interest in sustainable agriculture practices promoted through the initiative.

Krishi Raths (mobile agricultural outreach vans) are traveling through rural and hard-to-reach areas, conducting awareness sessions. Equipped with banners and audio systems, these Krishi Raths effectively communicate government schemes and best agricultural practices even in the most remote regions. This outreach plays a vital role in increasing farmer knowledge and participation under the campaign.

So far, a total of 142 awareness camps have been conducted across the Islands, with 17,871 farmers taking part in various programs.

The campaign will continue in phases across different blocks and villages until 12th June 2025 to ensure that every farmer receives access to vital information and support for holistic agricultural development, according to a press release from the Agriculture Department.
