In a significant step toward promoting education, literacy, and community engagement, a new village library was inaugurated at Gram Panchayat Mithakhari in South Andaman. The initiative, launched in its first phase, aims to cultivate a culture of reading and provide accessible learning resources to residents, especially students.

The library is expected to serve as a hub of knowledge and recreational reading, offering a wide range of books and educational materials to the local community.

The inauguration ceremony was held in the presence of the Director of Education, Mr. Vikram Singh, who graced the occasion as the chief guest. Addressing the gathering, Mr. Singh emphasized the value of reading as a powerful tool for gaining knowledge and understanding new concepts. “Reading not only enriches vocabulary and communication skills but also exposes individuals to diverse language structures,” he said.

The initiative received generous support from Sonalika Publication, which donated a significant number of books to help establish the library’s collection.

The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from students and villagers, who also took part in a variety of activities organised as part of the celebration.

Prominent attendees included Mr. Mohd. Shafique, Pradhan of Gram Panchayat Mithakhari; Mr. S. Suresh Kumar, Deputy Director of Education (Planning); Mr. Anbarasan, In-Charge of the State Library; and Ms. Pushpa Goswami from Sonalika Publishers.

The newly inaugurated village library is envisioned as a cornerstone for fostering literacy and life-long learning in the region. (Story Based on PR)
