Villagers of Tushnabad today gathered in large numbers amid heavy rainfall to protest against the bad roads in the region under the leadership of Mr. Anand Amrit Raj, Ex- Up Adyaksh, Zilla Parishad, South Andaman.
Mr. Anand informed Nicobar Times that the residents of the region are facing several problems because of the bad condition of roads at Hobdipur Village. He informed that the villagers including school students had to walk up to two kilometres to catch a bus because of the sliding of a culvert.
He further added that the road from Tushnabad Basthi to Ranchi Basthi was last renovated in the year 2010 and the condition of the road is currently very bad.
He informed that a NOC has to be produced from Zilla Parishad to the Gram Panchayat for the renovation work of the road to be started. Mr. Anand added that DC South Andaman has assured to expedite the process of issuing NOC so that the work can be taken up by the Gram Panchayat.
Mr. Anand also informed that the work of the road from Tushnabad Basthi to Ranchi Basthi has been awarded to a contractor and a meeting is scheduled regarding the said work tomorrow.
There are many regions in Andaman and Nicobar Islands where the roads are in very bad shape and needs urgent maintenance. The residents of the rural regions of the Islands often complain of the bad roads and the delay in repair work of such roads.
Andaman and Nicobar Administration should identify all roads which are in bad shape and chalk out a strategy to repair and renovate them. Bad roads are dangerous as they can lead to accidents and loss of life.
