Residents and authorities in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands are on alert as the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) issues a weather warning for the upcoming days. The archipelago is expected to experience heavy rain, thunderstorms, and gusty winds.

On Monday, September 11, 2023, heavy rainfall of 7 to 11 centimetres is anticipated at one or two locations across the Andaman Islands. Additionally, thunderstorms and lightning, accompanied by gusty winds with speeds reaching up to 40-50 kmph, are expected at one or two places in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
September 12-13, 2023 (Tuesday and Wednesday):
The weather forecast for Tuesday and Wednesday, September 12th and 13th, 2023, predicts that the Andaman Islands will continue to experience heavy rain, with 7 to 11 centimetres of precipitation expected at specific locations. Thunderstorms and lightning, along with gusty winds at speeds ranging from 40 to 50 kmph, are likely to occur at one or two places in the Andaman Islands. Meanwhile, the Nicobar Islands may also experience thunderstorms and lightning, accompanied by gusty winds with speeds of 30 to 40 kmph at select locations.
September 14, 2023 (Thursday):
On Thursday, September 14, 2023, the IMD forecasts thunderstorms and lightning with gusty winds of 30 to 40 kmph at one or two places over the Andaman Islands.
Fishermen Advisory:
In light of these weather conditions, fishermen have been strongly advised not to venture into the sea from September 10th, 2023, to September 14th, 2023. This precaution is due to the presence of strong monsoon currents over the Southeast Bay of Bengal and Andaman Sea, with wind speeds exceeding 45 kmph and rough sea conditions, making it hazardous for maritime activities.
Residents and visitors are urged to stay informed about the latest weather updates and follow the safety guidelines provided by the local authorities to minimise any potential risks associated with these weather events.
