The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a weather warning for the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, forecasting heavy rainfall and thunderstorms in the region from September 27th to September 30th, 2023. A warning for fishermen has also been issued, urging them not to venture into the sea during this period.
September 27, 2023: On September 27th, 2023, the IMD predicts that one or two places over the Andaman and Nicobar Islands are likely to experience heavy rain, with rainfall amounts ranging from 7 to 11 centimetres. Additionally, thunderstorms with lightning are expected at one or two places in the region.
September 28, 2023: The following day, September 28th, 2023, is expected to bring even heavier rainfall. Very heavy rain, ranging from 7 to 20 centimetres, is very likely to occur at one or two places over the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Thunderstorms with lightning, accompanied by gusty winds with speeds reaching 30-40 kmph, are also expected in the region.
September 29, 2023: The weather forecast for September 29th, 2023, indicates a continuation of heavy to very heavy rainfall, with amounts ranging from 7 to 20 centimetres over the Andaman Islands and 7 to 11 centimetres over the Nicobar Islands. Thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds are expected at one or two places throughout the archipelago.
September 30, 2023: On September 30th, 2023, the IMD predicts heavy to very heavy rainfall (7-20 cm) at one or two places over the Andaman Islands. Thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds (30-40 kmph) are also likely to occur at one or two places over the entire Andaman and Nicobar Islands region.
Fishermen Warning: Due to the anticipated squally weather conditions, with wind speeds exceeding 45 kmph, warning has also been issued to fishermen, advising them not to venture into the sea from September 27th to September 30th, 2023, to ensure their safety.
