Weather Alert Issued for A&N Islands; Fishermen Advised to Avoid South Andaman Sea on July 17–18

Authorities have issued a weather alert for the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, forecasting heavy rainfall and thunderstorm activity in the region.

According to the advisory, heavy rain measuring between 07 to 11 cm is very likely to occur at one or two places over Nicobar Islands on July 15. Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds reaching speeds of 30–40 kmph are also expected at isolated places across the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

In addition, squally weather with surface wind speeds of 35–45 kmph, gusting up to 55 kmph, is likely to prevail over the south Andaman Sea. Sea conditions are expected to be rough during this period.

Fishermen have been strongly advised not to venture into the sea along and off the south Andaman Sea from July 17 to 18 due to hazardous conditions.
