Weeklong Anti-Drug Programme Kicks Off at State Library to Promote Drug-Free Lifestyle

A weeklong Anti-Drug Programme-2025, organized by the Science Wing of the Directorate of Education (DDE(Sc.)), commenced on June 23 at the State Library, Middle Point, Sri Vijaya Puram. Scheduled to run until June 28, the initiative aims to raise awareness about the detrimental effects of narcotic drug consumption and encourage a drug-free lifestyle among students, youth, and the wider community.

Ms. Sindhu Pillai A., IPS, Inspector General of Police, A&N Police, graced the occasion as the chief guest. Other dignitaries present included Mr. Jitendra Kumar Meena, SP (CID), Padma Shri awardee Mr. Naresh Chander Lal, Mr. Vikram Singh, Director of Education, representatives from the NGO Hope Foundation, ISMAT, police officials, parents, teachers, and students.

The highlight of the inaugural session was the unveiling of the anti-drug campaign logo, bearing the message “We stand together against Drugs.”

The first day featured a series of informative and engaging activities. The A&N Police conducted a PowerPoint presentation and interactive session on key topics such as the POCSO Act, narcotic drug trafficking, and cybercrime. This was followed by storytelling sessions, role-playing games based on refusal and acceptance, and motivational talks on building healthy habits and embracing a drug-free life.

Around 160 students actively participated in the programme’s opening day.

In her address, the chief guest emphasized the urgent need for collective efforts in combating drug abuse and highlighted the critical role of education and community engagement in this regard.

The session concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Mr. Ram Pravesh, Deputy Director of Education (Science).
