The Directorate of Shipping Services (DSS), Andaman and Nicobar Administration, has opened bookings for an overnight New Year sea voyage to Barren Island aboard MV Swaraj Dweep, inviting islanders and tourists to welcome 2026 in the middle of the ocean, with a rare view of the country’s only active volcano.
Scheduled to sail on the night of December 31, the cruise promises panoramic sea views, a close encounter with Barren Island, and a New Year countdown under the stars. With a capacity of 1,200 passengers, DSS has reported an enthusiastic public response, with tickets selling rapidly.
According to the schedule, the vessel will depart from Haddo Wharf at 9 pm on December 31 and return by 2 pm on January 1, offering an overnight festive experience combining adventure, celebration and natural spectacle. Passengers can choose from multiple onboard classes based on comfort and budget, while catering services will remain available throughout the journey.
DSS has advised interested travellers to secure their bookings early through the official e-ticketing portal, noting that only limited seats remain for what has become its signature year-end voyage.
