The World Human Rights Protection Commission (WHRPC), under the leadership of Dr. J Arockia Raj, National Member, has made a strong appeal for the reform of Private Stage Carriage operations. The commission stresses the importance of implementing routine checks on driver licenses and the issuance of conductor licenses as mandated by Section 30 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988.

The WHRPC’s recommendations also include the strict enforcement of ticket issuance to passengers, aiming to enhance accountability within the transportation sector. Additionally, the commission highlights the necessity of monitoring the conduct of drivers and conductors, advocating for respectful and professional behaviour towards all passengers.

Dr. J Arockia Raj has urged the Enforcement Agency of the Transport Authority to take immediate action to ensure these measures are effectively implemented. “We must uphold essential standards for public safety,” Dr. Raj stated, emphasising the need for compliance with regulations to guarantee a safe, peaceful, and lawful travel experience for citizens.

The WHRPC’s proactive stance underscores the critical need for accountability and professionalism within public transport especially those operated by private players, aiming to protect the rights and safety of all passengers.
