The Government of India’s Women Helpline (181) and Child Helpline (1098) continue to function as dedicated support services aimed at providing immediate assistance, protection and guidance to women and children facing distress, violence or exploitation.

Operating under the Directorate of Social Welfare, the Women and Child Development Control Room at VIP Road serves as a 24/7 emergency response centre. The helplines are designed to ensure the safety, well-being and protection of the rights of women and children across urban, rural and tribal areas.

The Women Helpline (181) and Child Helpline (1098) handle calls from individuals in danger, including those experiencing domestic violence, abuse or other emergencies requiring urgent intervention. Upon receiving calls, the helplines facilitate timely support by connecting callers with relevant services such as the Police, One Stop Centre, hospitals, the District Legal Services Authority and other assistance mechanisms.

In addition to emergency response, the helplines also provide counselling services and information on various government schemes and programmes related to women’s welfare and child protection.

Women and children in need of support can dial 181 or 1098 at any time to access these services. Women may also approach the District One Stop Centre for redressal of grievances and amicable settlement of family-related and other issues, ensuring safety and security through institutional support systems.
