The Government of India’s Women Helpline (181) and Child Helpline (1098) are functioning as dedicated support services to provide immediate assistance, protection and guidance to women and children facing distress, violence or exploitation in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

Operating under the Directorate of Social Welfare, the Women and Child Development Control Room located at VIP Road functions as a 24×7 emergency response centre. The helplines aim to ensure the safety, well-being and protection of the rights of women and children across urban, rural and tribal areas of the Islands.

The Women Helpline (181) and Child Helpline (1098) receive calls from individuals in distress, including those facing domestic violence, abuse or other emergencies requiring urgent intervention. Upon receiving calls, the helplines facilitate timely assistance by coordinating with the Police, One Stop Centre, hospitals, the District Legal Services Authority and other relevant agencies.

Apart from providing emergency support, the helplines also offer counselling services and information about various government schemes and programmes related to women’s welfare and child protection.

Women and children in need of assistance can dial 181 or 1098 at any time to avail these services. Women may also approach the District One Stop Centre for redressal of grievances and amicable settlement of family-related and other issues, ensuring safety and security through institutional support systems.
