In an effort to foster a more participatory democracy, a Women’s Marathon was organized in Rangat as part of the Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation program (SVEEP). The event aimed to encourage all eligible citizens to vote in the upcoming General Election to LokSabha, 2024.
Approximately 50 women from various Government Departments, Self-Help Groups (SHGs), Anganwadi Workers, and villagers enthusiastically participated in the marathon. The event took place under the auspices of the Assistant Commissioner of Middle Andaman, who addressed the participants, stressing the significance of the marathon in promoting voter participation. The Tehsildar, Block Development Officer, and Assistant Director of Physical Education & Sports from Rangat also graced the occasion with their presence.
The marathon, covering a distance of 1.5 kilometres, saw participants completing the course with great fervour and determination. Beyond its athletic aspect, the marathon served as a platform to raise awareness about the importance of voting and to enhance voter literacy among the local populace within Rangat Tehsil.
The event underscored the commitment of local authorities to ensuring a robust electoral process by engaging citizens and empowering them with the knowledge and enthusiasm to exercise their democratic rights. As the General Election to LokSabha, 2024 approaches, initiatives like these play a crucial role in fostering a culture of active citizenship and democratic engagement across the nation.
