Women’s Volleyball Tournament Held in Nicobar to Honour Martyr SI Sanjeev, Kirti Chakra

In a heartfelt tribute to the courage and sacrifice of Martyr Sub-Inspector Sanjeev, recipient of the Kirti Chakra, the Nicobar District Police organized a Women’s Volleyball Knockout Tournament that concluded on 1st August 2025. The tournament aimed to foster community engagement and promote sportsmanship while honouring the legacy of the brave officer who laid down his life during rescue operations in the 2004 tsunami.

The event was inaugurated by Mr. Rahul L. Nair, Superintendent of Police, Nicobar District, on 30th July 2025. A total of 11 teams from across the Nicobar District participated, demonstrating exceptional enthusiasm and sporting spirit.

The final match was played between teams from Mus Village and Chuckchuka Village in the gracious presence of Mr. Amit Kale, IAS, Deputy Commissioner, Nicobar District. The tournament not only celebrated athletic talent but also served as a platform to strengthen police-public relations through the spirit of remembrance and unity.

In a poignant moment following the final match, the family of SI Sanjeev, Kirti Chakra, was honoured in recognition of his supreme sacrifice. Both the winning and runner-up teams were felicitated with Commendation Certificates (Class-II) and cash prizes.

The Nicobar District Police reiterated their commitment to community welfare and encouraged the general public to assist in maintaining law and order by reporting any criminal or suspicious activities.
