In observance of Learning Disability Week, the Composite Regional Centre (CRC), Andaman and Nicobar Islands, in collaboration with the State Institute of Education (SIE), Shiksha Sadan, Port Blair, organized a one-day workshop titled “Empowering Teachers to Support Students with Learning Disabilities.” The event took place at Government Senior Secondary School (GSSS), Mohanpura, and aimed to equip educators with the knowledge, skills, and strategies needed to effectively support students with learning disabilities.
Over 67 educators, including Primary School Resource Teachers (PSRT), Primary School Teachers (PST), Graduate Trained Teachers (GTT), and ICT instructors, attended the workshop, demonstrating their commitment to enhancing educational outcomes for students with learning disabilities.
The event was inaugurated by Mrs. Sangeeta Chand, Principal of the State Institute of Education, who highlighted the importance of inclusive education and the critical role of teachers in fostering an environment where all students can thrive. “It is our responsibility as educators to ensure every student receives the support and encouragement they need to succeed academically and personally,” she stated. “This workshop is a step towards equipping ourselves with the knowledge and tools to create an inclusive and supportive learning environment.”
Mrs. Bhavani, Principal of GSSS, Mohanpura, served as the special guest. The workshop featured sessions led by Dr. D. Kondaiah, Head of the IED Cell at SIE, and Mr. Raju, Coordinator at SIE, who provided valuable insights into the challenges and strategies associated with supporting students with learning disabilities. Additionally, Ms. Yogavathi Muthu T., Special Educator and Orientation and Mobility Instructor at CRC A&N, discussed the causes, types, and identification of learning disabilities, the use of assistive technologies to enhance learning, and the creation of an inclusive classroom environment.
Participants engaged in interactive sessions that offered hands-on experience with tools and techniques designed to support students with learning disabilities. These workshops encouraged collaborative learning and the sharing of best practices among educators.
