The Community Health Centre (CHC), Nancowry, marked World Hypertension Day and Anti-Malaria Month with a combined awareness programme at the Health and Wellness Centre in Champin on 16th June 2025, aiming to promote healthier lifestyle choices and disease prevention among the local community.
The programme, held with active community participation, focused on this year’s World Hypertension Day theme: “Measure your blood pressure accurately, control it, live longer.” Dr. Shabnam Salim, Medical Officer (Homoeopathy), delivered a detailed session highlighting the causes and symptoms of hypertension. She stressed the significance of regular blood pressure monitoring, strict adherence to medication, and adopting lifestyle changes such as yoga and meditation to manage the condition and mitigate risks like heart attacks and strokes.
Simultaneously, awareness activities were conducted to observe Anti-Malaria Month. Participants were sensitized on preventive strategies to combat mosquito-borne diseases. Key advisories included the use of mosquito nets while sleeping, wearing full-sleeved clothes during high-risk hours, and ensuring all water storage containers are securely covered to curb mosquito breeding.
The event was organized under the guidance of Dr. (Lt. Col.) Nirmal Kumar Bajpai, Medical Officer In-Charge, CHC Nancowry, and graced by Mr. James, 1st Captain of Champin.
The dual observance proved impactful in raising awareness on two vital public health issues, motivating the community to adopt preventive measures and lead a healthier lifestyle.
