Childhood pneumonia remains the leading infectious cause of death among children under the age of five in India, accounting for 16.3 percent of total under-five deaths. Observed annually on November 12, World Pneumonia Day aims to raise awareness and accelerate action to prevent and treat this life-threatening disease.

As part of the observance, the SAANS (Social Awareness & Action to Neutralize Pneumonia Successfully) campaign will be conducted from November 12, 2025, to February 28, 2026. The initiative focuses on strengthening the health system and enhancing community awareness to reduce the burden of childhood pneumonia.

The SAANS campaign 2025-26 will run with the tagline “Pneumonia Nahi, Toh Bachpan Sahi” — underscoring the importance of a pneumonia-free childhood for healthy growth and development.

Health authorities have appealed to the public to extend their full cooperation to ANMs (Auxiliary Nurse Midwives) and ASHAs (Accredited Social Health Activists) during community outreach efforts. Their support is crucial for early identification and timely management of pneumonia cases among under-five children.
