The Department of Agriculture, Rangat, observed World Soil Day 2025 at Dashratpur on 5th December 2025, aligning with the global theme “Healthy Soil for Healthy Cities.” The programme aimed to raise awareness about soil health, its role in food security, and the importance of sustainable soil management practices.

Ms. Shirly Thomas, Assistant Director (Agriculture), Rangat, welcomed the chief guest, Mr. Ajit Dakua, Chairman, PACS, the guest of honour, Mr. Lankeswar, along with the participating farmers and stakeholders.

Addressing the gathering, Agriculture Officer, Mr. Kanhaiya Lal Prasad, encouraged participants to adopt Good Agricultural Practices and make use of government schemes designed to support farmers. Dr. Chandan Lall from JSCA delivered an informative session on organic farming, sustainable nutrient management, soil conservation methods, and farm mechanization. He also highlighted key government initiatives, including the Soil Health Card Scheme under RKVY.

A major focus of the event was building awareness on the use of Soil Health Cards, which provide scientific analysis of soil quality and nutrient composition. Officials explained that the cards help farmers determine the correct type and amount of fertilizers, leading to improved crop yield and long-term preservation of soil fertility.

The programme witnessed participation from around 30 attendees, including farmers, SHG members, PRI representatives, the Chairman of PACS, and Agriculture Department officials.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Mr. Pradeep Halder, Incharge, Sub-depot, Rangat.
