World Wetland Day (WWD) was observed on February 2, 2026, with an awareness programme aimed at educating students about the importance of wetlands and biodiversity conservation. World Wetland Day is celebrated every year to commemorate the adoption of the Convention on Wetlands, signed on February 2, 1971, in Ramsar, Iran.

As part of the observance, an awareness lecture was organised at the Department of Science & Technology Awareness Hub for students of Government Middle School, Dollygunj. Dr. B. Sumit Kumar Rao, Entomologist (NVBDCP), graced the programme as the chief guest and delivered an informative lecture highlighting the ecological significance of wetlands and the urgent need to conserve biodiversity.

The session witnessed active participation from students, with around 50 students attending and engaging in interactive discussions during the programme. The initiative aimed to sensitise young minds about the vital role wetlands play in maintaining ecological balance and supporting diverse forms of life.
