The Biological Park, Chidiyatapu marked World Wetlands Day 2026 by organizing a series of awareness activities aligned with this year’s global theme, “Wetlands and Traditional Knowledge: Celebrating Cultural Heritage,” underscoring the role of indigenous wisdom in wetland conservation.

As part of the observance, a beach cleaning drive was conducted with the enthusiastic participation of students from the Primary School, Chidiyatapu, along with their teachers and staff of the Biological Park. The initiative aimed to promote responsible environmental behaviour and highlight the importance of protecting coastal and wetland ecosystems.

In another key activity, students from Rangachang School were taken on an educational visit to a nearby mangrove wetland site. During the visit, the students were sensitised to the ecological, environmental, and cultural significance of wetlands. Officials briefed them on the critical role wetlands play in biodiversity conservation, climate resilience, and livelihood support, while also emphasising the value of traditional knowledge in sustaining these fragile ecosystems over generations.

The students were encouraged to actively participate in the protection and conservation of wetlands, recognising them as a shared natural and cultural heritage that must be preserved for future generations.

The programme aimed to foster environmental awareness among young students and reinforce the importance of collective action towards wetland conservation for a sustainable and resilient future.
