As part of the 10th International Day of Yoga celebrations a special yoga programme was organised at the District Jail in Mayabunder. The event was supervised by Mr. Dilkhush Meena, IAS, Deputy Commissioner of North and Middle Andaman, and Mr. Ashish Joon, Assistant Commissioner (HQ), Mayabunder.
The yoga session, aimed at promoting physical and mental well-being among inmates, was led by Dr. Priyanka Iqbal, GDMO (Ayurveda), and Ms. Puja Kumari, Yoga Instructor at Dr. R.P. Hospital, Mayabunder. They guided participants through various yoga asanas as outlined in the Common Yoga Protocol.
In addition to the asanas, the programme included Yogic Kriyas and Pranayama, coordinated by Mr. P.K. Ghose, Chief Head Warder of the District Jail. The practice of these techniques fostered a sense of unity and tranquility among the inmates, contributing to their mental and emotional health.
The initiative underscored the transformative power of yoga in enhancing the mental status of prisoners, promoting harmony, and fostering a sense of community within the institution. The event was a significant step towards integrating holistic health practices in correctional facilities, aiming for the overall well-being of inmates.
