Two Tourists Tests Positive for Omicron at Port Blair

Two tourists who travelled to Port Blair from the United States of America through New Delhi have tested positive for the Omicron variant of COVID-19. The samples of these tourists were sent for genomic sequencing.

According to sources and media reports, both the tourists have been isolated in the Nursing Home of G.B Pant Hospital.

According to a Press Release by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare 1270 cases of Omicron have been reported throughout the country, out of which 374 patients have also recovered/migrated. 

On Nov 26 2021, WHO had designated Omicron as a variant of concern. 

According to the health bulletin released by the Andaman and Nicobar Administration on 30th of December 2021, the Islands currently has nine active cases of COVID-19. All the nine active cases have been reported in South Andaman District. North & Middle Andaman District, as well as Nicobar District, are COVID-19 free.

Altogether, Andaman and Nicobar Islands has reported 7720 cases of COVID-19 since March 2020.
