The Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services (AH&VS), under the Andaman and Nicobar Administration, organized a one-day training program on duck farming for rural women of Manglutan Panchayat on August 7. The initiative aimed to equip participants with scientific knowledge and practical skills to promote sustainable poultry farming as a viable livelihood option.

The comprehensive training covered essential aspects of duck farming such as breeding, nutrition, health management, and farm maintenance. Women participants received hands-on guidance to efficiently manage duck farms, thereby enhancing productivity and profitability. Training materials and pamphlets were also distributed to support ongoing learning. Upon successful completion, all participants were registered and awarded certificates recognizing their new expertise.

The event was inaugurated by Mr. Durlabh Das, Panchayat Pradhan, who encouraged the women to apply the techniques learned to improve their economic status and contribute positively to community development. The Senior Veterinary Officer of the Animal Husbandry Training Institute (AHTI) highlighted the importance of adopting scientific methods to boost farm output and support local economic growth.

This training program reflects the AH&VS Department’s dedication to empowering rural women and fostering sustainable animal husbandry practices across the islands. The enthusiastic participation from Manglutan women underscores the community’s readiness to embrace new livelihood opportunities. The department plans to continue such initiatives in line with the Administration’s vision of promoting economic empowerment and sustainable development through poultry farming.
