Chief Secretary of A&N Islands Visits Campbell Bay, Unveils Tsunami Memorial on 20th Anniversary of 2004 Tsunami

The Chief Secretary of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Dr. Chandra Bhushan Kumar, IAS, concluded a two-day visit to Campbell Bay Subdivision on December 25 and 26, 2024. The visit focused on addressing local development issues and commemorating the victims of the 2004 Tsunami.

On December 25, Dr. Kumar held a meeting with Panchayat Raj Institution (PRI) members and tribal representatives, where he discussed various developmental initiatives and addressed their grievances. The meeting highlighted the Administration’s commitment to inclusive growth and resolving community concerns.

The following day, Dr. Kumar unveiled the newly constructed Tsunami Memorial at Campbell Bay to mark the 20th Remembrance Year of the 2004 Tsunami. The poignant ceremony began with a wreath-laying and floral tributes, as the Chief Secretary paid homage to those who lost their lives in the tragedy. Tribal leaders, PRI members, and senior officials participated in the ceremony, offering their respects.

As part of his visit, Dr. Kumar also visited the Big Lapati Tsunami Memorial in Car Nicobar, where he paid tribute to the victims of the devastating disaster. Later, he engaged in discussions with the Tribal Council, the Deputy Commissioner of Nicobar District, Mr. Amit Kale, IAS, and district officials to address development issues affecting the region.

Dr. Kumar’s visit underscored the Administration’s dedication to honouring the memory of the lives lost in the 2004 Tsunami, while also focusing on addressing the needs of the community and strengthening future preparedness.
