Fishermen Welfare Association Delegation Meets A&N Fisheries Officials to Demand Subsidies and Construction of New Fish Markets

A delegation from the Fishermen Welfare Association of Andaman and Nicobar Islands met with the Secretary (Fisheries) and the Director of Fisheries, A&N Administration on 23rd July 2024. The meeting took place in the conference hall of the Department of Transport.

Led by Mr. B. Hema Raju, General Secretary of the Fishermen Welfare Association, the delegation included prominent members such as Mr. S.U. Maheswar Rao, Governing Body Member of the National Fisheries Development Board (NFDB), Hyderabad; Mr. Y. Joga Rao, Councilor of Ward No. 14; Mr. B. Satyanarayan, State Youth President of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), A&N Islands; Ms. B. Mohini, Vice President of the JATC-ANI; Mr. P. Yogesh, Port Blair City President of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM); and Mr. P. Nageshwar Rao, representative of the Fishermen Community from Junglighat and Haddo areas.

During the meeting, the delegation highlighted several key issues and developmental proposals, including:

1. The implementation of diesel and electricity subsidies for the fisheries sector in the A&N Islands, as per the Ministry of Fisheries’ letter dated June 28, 2024.

2. The construction of fish markets in various locations, including Dignabad, Haddo, Brookashabad, and Delinipur.

B. Hema Raju also raised other significant issues concerning the welfare of the fishermen community. The Secretary (Fisheries) assured the delegation of prompt and positive action on all the matters discussed, aiming to benefit the fishermen community of the A&N Islands.
