Liju Thankachan, General Secretary, Seafarers Confederation of India has written a letter to the Chief Secretary, A & N Administration and Deputy Commissioner, South Andaman requesting them to vaccinate seafarers on priority.
Liju Thankachan in his letter has informed the dignitaries that a lot of seafarers of A & N Islands are continuously getting affected by COVID-19 pandemic and its second wave.
He further wrote that, shipping is the lifeline of our Islands and during this COVID-19 pandemic the seafarers are doing the job of transporting men and materials to all Islands without any reluctance and are extending all possible support to A & N Administration.
He further requested the Chief Secretary and the Deputy Commissioner to vaccinate seafarers of our Islands against COVID-19 on priority, since there is a delay in starting vaccination for those in the age group of 18-44 years.
