In a significant milestone marking the 120th anniversary of Rotary International, the Rotary Club of Port Blair Next Gen has inaugurated the first-ever Egg Bank in the Andaman & Nicobar Islands. The initiative was launched at Seva Niketan Ashram, Sri Vijaya Puram, with the support of Rtn. Dr. Valmiki Hari Kishan, popularly known as the ‘Rotary Egg Man.’
The event, held at 4:00 PM on February 25, 2025, was graced by the esteemed presence of Rtn. Dr. Krishnendu Gupta, District Governor of Rotary (RID 3291), who attended as the Chief Guest. Several distinguished guests, community leaders, and Rotarians were also present to witness the launch of this impactful initiative.
As part of the project, 12 trays of eggs were handed over to the Secretary of Seva Niketan Ashram to bolster the nutritional intake of the 54 children residing there. The Rotary Egg Bank initiative aligns with Rotary International’s mission to improve the well-being of children and communities worldwide.
The event was coordinated by Rtn. Mohd. A. Jadwet, President of the Rotary Club of Port Blair Next Gen, alongside Rtn. Dakshin Bhasker, Secretary, and Rtn. Ayush Kandoi, Treasurer. Their efforts, along with the support of local dignitaries and volunteers, played a crucial role in the successful launch of the initiative.
The Egg Bank initiative has already seen success across India and internationally, with over 110 Egg Banks established to combat malnutrition and food insecurity. The launch of the first Egg Bank in the Andaman & Nicobar Islands marks a significant step forward in addressing these issues in the region.
