Continuous rainfall on May 24 and 25 triggered a landslide in the Sippighat area, leading to the dislocation of two major gravity pipelines originating from the Dhanikhari Dam. The affected pipelines—a 500mm diameter Ductile Iron (D.I) line supplying raw water to the Garacharma Water Treatment Plant and a 500mm diameter Cast Iron (C.I) pipeline supplying raw water to the Old Plant at Lamba Line—were subsequently shut down for repair and restoration.
Repair work, which commenced immediately, was expected to be completed by the evening of May 26. However, the disruption led to water supply issues in several parts of the city.
On May 26, water supply was affected in areas served by the Lamba Line and Garacharma Water Treatment Plants, including Police Line, All India Radio, and Rachi Basti Command Tank. Partial supply disruptions are expected to continue in these areas today, May 27.
In response, officials from the Sri Vijaya Puram Municipality have been alerted to take necessary measures to mitigate inconvenience to the public. Meanwhile, water tankers will be deployed from the Jawahar Sarovar Treatment Plant to support affected areas.
Residents have been urged to conserve water and use the available supply judiciously until normal supply is restored.
