Water supply in areas served by the Garacharma Command Tank will be partially affected on June 3, 2025, due to essential shifting work on a major pipeline, officials announced.
According to a press release recieved, the 500 mm DI gravity main pipeline running from Dhanikhari Dam to the Lamba Line Treatment Plant is being shifted as a precautionary measure following further land settlement near the Sippighat road. The preventive move aims to avoid potential damage to the pipeline in the future.
As part of the operation, the pipeline will be shut down at approximately 8:00 AM on Tuesday, June 3. The repair and shifting work is expected to be completed by the evening of the same day.
During this period, there will be no raw water supply to the Garacharma Water Treatment Plant during daytime hours. As a result, water distribution in the areas dependent on the Garacharma Command Tank will experience reduced supply.
Sri Vijaya Puram Municipal Council has been asked to plan distribution accordingly to mitigate the impact. Authorities have also appealed to the general public, as well as commercial and institutional establishments, to use water judiciously during this period.
The authorities have expressed regret for the inconvenience caused.
