The Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Mr. B S Jaglan, IAS, convened a crucial meeting on February 15, 2024, with key officials to strategise for the upcoming General Elections to Lok Sabha – 2024. The meeting, held at the Secretariat of the A&N Administration, aimed to streamline efforts in ensuring a smooth electoral process and enhancing voter awareness.
Among those present at the meeting were the Returning Officer (ANIPC), Ms. Veditha Reddy, IAS, Joint Chief Electoral Officer, Mr. Dilkhush Meena, IAS, Asst. Commissioner (UT), Mr. Suvigya S Chandra, IAS, Asst. Commissioner (Sett), Mr. Anand Vardhan Mishra, and Nodal Officer (Social Media)/Director (IP&T), Mr. Jatinder Sohal, along with representatives from Doordarshan & All India Radio.
During the session, the CEO emphasized the importance of leveraging social media platforms to disseminate up-to-date information regarding the electoral process and voter education. Recognizing the extensive reach of social media, the CEO highlighted the need to maximize outreach among citizens to ensure their active participation in the democratic process.
In line with this objective, the CEO directed the formation of a Committee – Media Certification and Monitoring Committee (MCMC). This committee will be responsible for certifying advertisements of political nature by Political Parties/groups/organizations/associations, ensuring adherence to electoral guidelines and regulations.
The CEO underscored the significance of social media in shaping public discourse and its pivotal role in the upcoming General Elections. By harnessing the power of social media, the electoral authorities aim to engage citizens effectively, promote voter awareness, and uphold the integrity of the electoral process.
As preparations intensify for the General Elections to Lok Sabha – 2024, the collaborative efforts of electoral officials and stakeholders underscore a commitment to conducting free, fair, and transparent elections in Andaman & Nicobar Islands.
