The District Magistrate, Nicobar District has ordered further restrictions and measures to curb the rise in COVID-19 cases in the Islands. Nicobar District currently has zero COVID-19 cases. The order promulgated by the District Magistrate, Nicobar District on 23rd of April is being welcomed by residents of the district.
The order restricts the Public Transport/Buses to ply with maximum 50% of their seating capacity. Violations in this regard will attract a penalty of Rs. 5000/-.
Further the Auto/Taxis have been ordered to ply with a maximum of two passengers. Violations in this regard will also attract a penalty of Rs. 5000/-.
Social/Academic/Sports/Entertainment/Cultural/Festivals/ Political Functions and other congregations will not be permitted.
All Parks/Playgrounds/Stadiums/Swimming Pools/Sports events shall be temporarily closed for 04 weeks.
All incoming passengers from Port Blair to Nicobar District by ship will have to undergo compulsory home quarantine for 07 days irrespective of being tested negative. Any violation in this regard will also attract a fine of Rs. 5000/-.
Marriage related gatherings with a celling of guests not exceeding 50 persons and funeral/last rites related gatherings not exceeding 20 persons shall be permitted. Any violation in this regard will be fined Rs. 10,000/-.
All establishments have been asked to ensure strict adherence of COVID-19 appropriate behaviour like wearing of face masks and maintaining social distancing. The responsibility has been vested in owner/In-charge of the shop/establishment failing which criminal proceedings will be initiated against them and the shop/establishment will be sealed for 14 days by the Executive Magistrate. Home Delivery of medicines/groceries will be promoted.
No Tribal Passes/Landing Permits will be issued till further orders except for official/essential purposes.
All Sub-Divisional Magistrates, Executive Magistrates, Revenue Officials rank of Patwari and above, Panchayat Secretaries of RD Department, Food Safety Officers, Assistant Registrar of Cooperative Societies and Police Personnel rank of constable and above have been authorised to impose and collect fines.
Imposing of fine does not bar any other legal action that may be attracted due to violation of any other Act/Law/Rule in force.
