Hundreds of passengers bound for Little Andaman are protesting near Deputy Commissioner Office, Port Blair demanding for more ships. More than a thousand residents of Little Andaman are stuck in Port Blair and are in urgent need to travel back to their homes.

Most of the residents have exhausted all their financial resources and have no place to stay. Nicobar Times spoke to the protesting residents of Hut Bay over phone and they informed us that one ship sailing for Hut Bay has been announced on 25/04/2021, but that is not enough and only a fraction of those stuck will be able to travel.

Further, a resident of Little Andaman also informed Nicobar Times that he approached DC Office, South Andaman with his request to travel to Hut Bay on 28th of March, but his name was only entered in the list on 7th of April, below those who approached the DC Office much later than him.

Police is reportedly trying its best to ensure COVID-19 appropriate behaviour at the protest site.

The residents of the Southern Group including Little Andaman are struck in Port Blair in large numbers and are requesting the authorities to arrange adequate transportation for them back to their homes.

Political Leaders of the Islands have also raised the issue at the appropriate level.
