In a significant move, the Directorate of Industries, Andaman and Nicobar (A&N) Administration has rolled out guidelines to address violations in the Industrial Estates across the islands.
The Directorate of Industries has established six Industrial Estates located in Dollygunj, Garacharama, Mithakhari, Hutbay (Little Andaman), Bakultala (Middle Andaman), and Campbell Bay (Great Nicobar). These estates provide industrial land and plots equipped with basic amenities for entrepreneurs and enterprises, fostering economic growth in the region.
Recently, a Committee was constituted through Order No. 325 dated June 16, 2023, under the directives of the Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor of A&N Islands. The Committee’s primary focus is to enforce compliance with the rules governing Industrial Estates and the lease agreements signed by those allotted plots and sheds within these estates.
In line with the Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor’s directions, the Committee will now meticulously scrutinize each case of violation, assessing them against the terms and conditions of the agreements between the Directorate of Industries and the lessees, as well as the rules for allotment of plots and sheds in the Industrial Estates.
These newly approved guidelines are specifically targeted at existing industrial units within these estates. They serve as a one-time corrective measure, ensuring that any deviations from the established norms are rectified. The guidelines also introduce penalties for those found in violation, emphasizing the Administration’s commitment to maintaining strict adherence.
The guidelines came into effect immediately upon their issuance and will remain enforceable until all existing violations are addressed. Detailed information regarding the guidelines and associated penalties can be accessed through the Administration’s State Portal at http://db.and.nic.in/Industry/invest/index.php.
This move is expected to reinforce discipline within the industrial sector, promoting fair and lawful use of the industrial estates, and ensuring that the infrastructure continues to serve its intended purpose of supporting economic development in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
