In a bid to safeguard the integrity of the democratic process and tackle the potential misuse of Short Message Services (SMSs) and social media platforms during elections, the Andaman & Nicobar (A & N) Police has taken a proactive step by introducing a dedicated WhatsApp number, R20;9531856083”. This initiative aligns with the directives of the Election Commission of India (ECI) and underscores a commitment to ensuring fair and transparent electoral proceedings.

Citizens are urged to utilize this specialized platform to promptly report any instances of objectionable messages, providing crucial details such as the sender’s number. The goal is to swiftly address any malicious online activities, with potential legal repercussions awaiting offenders.

Upon receiving reports, the Andaman & Nicobar Police will launch comprehensive investigations, utilizing the full array of legal provisions outlined in key legislations including the Indian Penal Code, Representation of the People Act 1951, Information Technology Act 2000, Conduct of Election Rules 1961, and various directives issued by the Election Commission of India. This multi-pronged approach ensures that those found guilty of electoral misconduct or online crimes are held accountable for their actions.

The success of this endeavour hinges on the cooperation and vigilance of citizens. As such, the community is implored to remain vigilant and report any instances of SMS or social media misuse promptly. By doing so, citizens contribute significantly to upholding the integrity of the electoral process and ensuring free, fair, and peaceful elections across the islands of Andaman & Nicobar.
