AATO Concludes Capacity Building Training with Valedictory Function at Hotel Lemon Tree in Port Blair

Andaman Association of Tour Operators (AATO) marked the successful conclusion of its comprehensive capacity-building training programme with a valedictory function at Hotel Lemon Tree, Port Blair, on August 13, 2024. The training, organised in collaboration with the Vidya Yuva Kendra Foundation and the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India, ran from August 10 to 13, and was aimed at enhancing the skills and knowledge of local tourism stakeholders.

The valedictory function was a well-attended event, graced by distinguished guests including Mr. Chandrasekhar, Vice President of the Andaman Chamber of Commerce, who served as the Chief Guest, and Mr. Ramakrishna, Assistant Director of India Tourism, who was the Guest of Honour. Both dignitaries emphasised the critical importance of continuous learning and skill development within the tourism sector, particularly in the Andaman Islands, a region renowned for its unique ecological and cultural significance.

In his address, Mr. Chandrasekhar praised AATO for spearheading such impactful training sessions, which he noted are vital for the professional advancement of local tourism professionals. “Initiatives like this are essential for maintaining and elevating the standards of our tourism industry,” he remarked, highlighting the direct benefits to the local economy and visitor satisfaction.

Mr. Ramakrishna echoed these sentiments, underscoring India Tourism’s commitment to supporting initiatives that foster excellence in the industry. He stressed the need for ongoing capacity building to ensure that the Andaman Islands remain a top destination for tourists, while also preserving the delicate balance between development and conservation.

Mr. Mohan, Director of the Vidya Yuva Kendra Foundation, provided an insightful briefing to the participants on the significance of the training, particularly in adapting to the dynamic demands of the tourism industry. He encouraged attendees to leverage the knowledge and skills acquired during the programme to enhance the overall visitor experience in the Andaman Islands.

The training programme featured a series of interactive sessions and workshops, focusing on sustainable tourism practices, customer service excellence, and effective management strategies. The participation of 38 members, who actively engaged in the sessions, demonstrated a strong commitment to raising the standards of tourism services in the region.

At the conclusion of the programme, certificates were distributed to all participants by the Chief Guest and the Guest of Honour, symbolizing the successful completion of the training and recognizing the dedication of the attendees.

AATO remains steadfast in its commitment to the ongoing development of the tourism sector in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The organization plans to continue hosting such training programmes, with the goal of empowering local stakeholders and promoting sustainable tourism practices across the region.
